Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)

Since September 2020, schools must teach relationships education in key stages 1 and 2, relationships and sex education in key stages 3 and 4, and health education in key stages 1 to 4.

As a Catholic College, our mission is to support the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all of our pupils, rooted in the wisdom and teaching of the Church. The education of children in human sexuality is an important, precious and privileged responsibility.  The Church teaches us that this is very much a partnership with parents, in which parents are the ‘first educators’ of their children on these matters; ultimately, you confer on us the right to co-educate your children with you.

At the heart of all our learning is our Catholic faith. In order to fulfil the whole range of learning intentions and build on each year group's learning, our governors have agreed on the Ten:Ten RSE Programme 'Life to The Full'.

‘Life to the Full’ has been approved by our Diocese.  Furthermore, Ten:Ten have entered into a partnership with the Catholic Education Service and the Department for Education to provide training for teachers in Catholic schools on the subject of the new statutory curriculum. Therefore, we are confident that this programme is a very good fit for the college.

Parents/carers can access Parent Communication Tool:

The Parent Communication Tool provides with parents with an online tutorial about the vision, structure and content of Life to the Full.

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)

The college adopts a spiral PSHE/RSE curriculum, which is in line with statutory government guidance. All pupils 7-13 have access to PSHE lessons twice a week during Period 6 with the aim of giving each of our young people the knowledge, skills and understanding to lead confident, healthy and independent lives, now and in the future.

PSHE education helps young people to stay safe and be prepared for life’s challenges and opportunities.  In addition to PSHE lessons during Period 6, pupils across all year groups receive regular visits from external guest speakers to reinforce the knowledge gained during PSHE time.

Below you will find schemes of work from year 7 through to year 11, which demonstrates our sequential learning. Our pupils are frequently asked about what topics are important to them, giving each student a say in their PSHE education.
